QR11 Sala Cremona (Cremona Room)

In the south section of the castell, the Sala Cremona (Cremona Room) is located on the left side of the cloister. It is accessed by means of the landing of the main stairway. It has a simple wood door at its entrance. The name of this room commemorates the important historical relationship and brotherhood between the cities of Cremona and Alaquas.

There are old marks on the earth wall of the wood beam weepholes which intuitively indicate a former height division of this entire zone. At present, the ceiling has been completed with wood beams in a clearer tone to show that they are new with a sky ceiling painted with blue stucco. This same artesonado (coffered wood ceiling) is used in the external part of the Cremona Room, in the ascent to the main floor. This roof did not originally exist; it was a space with major height.

Today, this room has become a privileged room for the celebration of all types of events due to its diaphanous structure.

Curious fact: As a characteristic element, this room features the architectural structure which connects the oratory; it was used to access the church called “Iglesia de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora”, which is joined to the castell. From the southwest end of the gallery, it allowed the Lord of the Palace to attend the religious ceremonies of the adjacent church without the need to exit from his domain. The link between both buildings was built in a refurbishment phase at the end of the 17th century.
